Sleaford Mods speak with The Quietus (http://youtu.be/EjWojQwqbRE)

UK press on Sleaford Mods

“…some of the best music being made in England right now is happening from artists creating a lurid, living portrait of a country that’s not right in its head… Nobody is doing it as explicitly as this duo though, and frankly it’s a pleasure to for once hear music that’s made with such bile, such attack.”  -NME

“Sleaford Mods sound like nothing else. Best Band in the land. It’s that simple” – The Quietus

“It isn’t always the role of political music to come up with solutions. But nothing could be more urgent than the questions Sleaford Mods pose.” – The Wire

“Like Happy Mondays, the Fall and William Blake, Sleaford Mods are English visionary ranters…” – The Sunday Times

Fela Kuti box set #3, curated by Brian Eno, out now!

BRIAN ENO-CURATED FELA KUTI BOX SET IS OUT TODAY
ON KNITTING FACTORY RECORDS

FELEBRATION EVENTS SCHEDULED ACROSS THE COUNTRY FOR OCTOBER

WATCH: Trailer for Finding Fela, the recently-released documentary from Academy Award winning director Alex Gibney via YouTube

PURCHASE: Fela Vinyl Box Set #3, curated by Brian Eno, via Knitting Factory Records

Knitting Factory Records today releases the third installment of their Fela Kuti Box Set Series. The box was curated by long-time admirer Brian Eno and his album selections span the ten years in which Fela's afrobeat progressed from its formative stage to a rich maturation of the form. It begins with 1971's Shakara and ends with 1980's I.T.T.(International Thief Thief). It also includes London Scene (1972), Afrodisiac, Gentleman (both 1973) and Upside Down(1976). The penultimate selection is 1976's Zombie, which was a huge hit in Nigeria. There are only 2,000 copies of this limited edition box set: The albums are pressed on 180 gram vinyl, come with a poster reproduction from a Fela Kuti & Africa 70 show in Brussels, and a fourteen page booklet.

Says box set curator, Brian Eno, "Before about mid-September 1973 I didn't have much interest in polyrhythmic music. I didn't really get it. That all changed one autumn day when I walked into Stern's Record Shop off Tottenham Court Road. For reasons I've long forgotten, I left the store with an album that was to change my life dramatically. It was Afrodisiac by Fela Ransome-Kuti (as he was then known) and his band The Africa 70. I remember the first time I listened and how dazzled I was by the groove and the rhythmic complexity, and by the raw, harsh sounds of the brass, like Mack trucks hurtling across highways with their horns blaring. Everything I thought I knew about music at that point was up in the air again. The sheer force and drive of this wild Nigerian stuff blew my mind. My friend Robert Wyatt called it 'Jazz from another planet' - and suddenly I thought I understood the point of jazz, until then an almost alien music to me."

October marks the annual Felabration month. Felabrations are the annual celebrations that commemorate the life and music of the late Fela Anikulakpo Kuti. The original Felabrations date back to the early 1970's when Fela and his band took over The Shrine in Lagos, Nigeria and performed until the sun came up. Felabrations take place all over the world to coincide with Fela Kuti's birthday on October 15th.

This year also saw the release of Finding Fela, a documentary directed by Academy Award winning director Alex Gibney. The documentary follows the life of Fela Kuti and the creation of the Broadway musical, Fela! Many of the national and international Felabrations will be hosting screenings ofFinding Fela - the full list of Felabrations are below.

Chuck Prophet's new album out now, "Wish Me Luck" video

CHUCK PROPHET’S NIGHT SURFER OUT NOW
ON YEP ROC RECORDS TO WIDESPREAD ACCLAIM
“WISH ME LUCK” MUSIC VIDEO PREMIERES AT PASTE
TOUR DATES CONFIRMED

“Sass, sarcasm and suck-you-in rock arrangements—think Reed crossed with Petty—make the new Night Surfer album a standout.”—USA Today

“…no one can turn tales from the outer limits into catchy songs quite like Prophet does. He’s as original as the characters he brings to life, in all their tawdry, tattered glory.”—NPR Music

“…a minor god in the roots-rock pantheon—a sharp, prolific singer-songwriter who always seems to have a new batch of tunes ready to go.”—The Washington Post

“…with Prophet, grimness, humor, fact and fiction mingle freely.”—NPR Fresh Air

Night Surfer, the thirteenth studio album for acclaimed singer, songwriter and performer Chuck Prophet, is out now on Yep Roc Records to widespread acclaim (iTunesAmazon). The Boston Globe calls the record, “…category-defying…” while the Chicago Sun-Times asserts, “One of the best songwriters of the last 20 years who could wear Tom Petty’s crown…” and The Washington Times praises, “Chuck Prophet’s music is, once again, magic.” In celebration of the release, the official music video for the first single, “Wish Me Luck,” which was directed by Ryan Browne and stars Robert Longstreet, premiered today at Paste and can now be viewed/embedded here. Additionally, Prophet will embark on a worldwide tour this fall. See below for complete details.

Night Surfer
was recorded in Prophet’s hometown of San Francisco at Decibelle Recording Studio and in Nashville at Alex the Great with noted producer Brad Jones and was mixed in upstate New York by Paul Q Kolderie. Of the album, Prophet comments, “This record is loosely conceptual but universal all the same. It’s all about a path forward, about looking around and imagining where we’ll be in 20 years if we just follow that path. And of course, you’ll find a persistent anxiety throughout; we live, after all, in anxious times. As John Murry told me after a first listen, ‘It brings a tear to the eye and blood to the johnson.’ So yeah, a new record, new sound. It’s got it’s own groove with in your face guitars that snake and harmonize. They jangle too, thanks in no small part to special guest Peter Buck.”

The new record follows Prophet’s widely praised 2012 release, Temple Beautiful, of which Paste Magazine asserted, “Not since Lou Reed paid homage to the city and era that forged him with New York has there been a song cycle dedicated to a place and reality that offers the core immediacy with the thump, churn and ferocity of Chuck Prophet’s Temple Beautiful.”
Since emerging onto the music scene at age 18 as a member of the seminal rock band Green on Red, Prophet has collaborated with everyone from Warren Zevon and Kelly Willis to Jim Dickinson and Lucinda Williams among many others. In recent years, Prophet’s music has been featured in several hit television series including HBO’s “True Blood,” Showtime’s “Californication,” and FX’s “Sons of Anarchy.” He also co-wrote all the songs on Alejandro Escovedo’s 2008 critically acclaimed album Real Animal.

NEIL YOUNG RELEASES NEW SONG "WHO'S GONNA STAND UP?"

NEIL YOUNG RELEASES NEW SONG "WHO'S GONNA STAND UP?"
FROM UPCOMING STUDIO ALBUM STOREYTONE
September 25, 2014 - (Burbank, CA.) - As previously reported, Neil Young has released a brand new studio recording titled, "Who's Gonna Stand Up?," via NeilYoung.com.

The new song is featured on Young's upcoming album, STOREYTONE, which will be released this November. Details to be revealed soon. The song was originally performed at a Crazy Horse shows U.K. this summer and more recently part of Young's solo acoustic set at Farm Aid this past Sept 13th, at Walnut Creek Amphitheater in Raleigh North Carolina. The audience did indeed stand up and sing along in unison in support of the song's plea to end our dependence of fossil fuels and realize our responsibility to protect our earth's fragile eco systems to ensure the quality of life for future generations. To learn more visit: http://www.neilyoung.com/news/

Young also recorded the track backed by a 92-piece symphony and choir. Live, orchestral and solo acoustic versions of "Who's Gonna Stand Up?" are all available via NeilYoung.com. Young encourages you to post and share "Who's Gonna Stand Up?" now. Three versions to choose from:

Live version with Crazy Horse:
https://soundcloud.com/warnerbrosrecords/neil-young-whos-gonna-stand-up-band-version

Orchestral version:
https://soundcloud.com/warnerbrosrecords/neil-young-whos-gonna-stand-up-orchestral-version

Solo Acoustic version:
https://soundcloud.com/warnerbrosrecords/neil-young-whos-gonna-stand-up-acoustic

"I'd like to make a record with a full-blown orchestra, live -- a mono recording with one mic. I want to do something like that where we really record what happened, with one point of view and the musicians moved closer and farther away, the way it was done in the past. To me that's a challenge and it's a sound that's unbelievable, and you can't get it any other way," Neil told Billboard in March.

More information to be announced soon. Until then, please enjoy "Who's Gonna Stand Up?" Lyrics are below:

Bryan Ferry Announces New Studio Album 'Avonmore'

BRYAN FERRY
THE NEW STUDIO ALBUM
'AVONMORE'

Monday November 17th sees the release of ‘Avonmore’, the new studio album from Bryan Ferry. After his beguiling detour into “The Jazz Age” and a significant contribution to Bazz Luhrmann’s hit film of “The Great Gatsby”, Ferry returns to the present day with a compelling collection of eight brand new compositions and two intriguing covers.
Johnny Marr , Nile Rodgers and Marcus Miller feature throughout the album, together with a shifting cast including Flea, Ronnie Spector, Mark Knopfler and Maceo Parker.

From the darkly driven title track, through to the contemplative “Soldier Of Fortune”, from the swirling groove of “One Night Stand” to the dreamlike first single “Loop De Li” – ‘Avonmore’ is both contemporary and classic. The two covers are unique Ferry musical interpretations – a beautiful and lush take on Sondheim’s “Send In The Clowns” and Robert Palmers “Johnny and Mary”, a collaboration with the Norwegian DJ and producer Todd Terje, transformed into a melancholic hymn to love and loss.

Loop De Li can be streamed here: http://po.st/LoopDeLiAudio

Tracklisting
1. Loop De Li
2. Midnight Train
3. Soldier of Fortune
4. Driving Me Wild

Produced by Bryan Ferry and Rhett Davies and mixed by Craig Silvey, 'Avonmore' will be released on Monday November 17th on Vinyl, CD and Digital editions – all on BMG Rights Management.
