HALSEY 'ROOM 93' EP OUT NOW

HALSEY EP 'ROOM 93'
OUT NOW ON ASTRALWERKS

#2 ALBUM ON ITUNES ALTERNATIVE CHART
#33 ALBUM ON ITUNES OVERALL

PRAISE FOR HALSEY

"Spacious and sweeping." - BILLBOARD
"Halsey has already found the perfect poppy sweet spot." - VOGUE
"Unexpectedly unnerving." - IDOLATOR

WATCH THE VIDEO FOR "GHOST"http://vevo.ly/a2qoOe

Order "Room 93" and instantly receive "Ghost" and new track "Is There Somewhere"
Order available as a digital EP download, a limited edition hotel room key (download card), or as part of a bundle with a one-of-a-kind upcycled vintage flannel

"Room 93",the debut EP from New Jersey native and artistic firebrand Ashley Frangipane - known to her legions of fans as Halsey - has been officially released via Astralwerks.  Each phase of the rollout of her singles and videos has been met with fervent enthusiasm from fans who previously helped her trend worldwide on Twitter and who have gotten her album to #2 on the iTunes Alternative Chart and #33 overall in just one day.

The five-track collection features Halsey's debut single "Ghost", whose video premiered today exclusively on Idolator.  Idolator has called the video "unexpectedly unnerving." Halsey says the song and video have a "sense of hopelessness" that depict "a relationship with someone who isn't emotionally available", one where "you feel their physical presence but the emotional one isn't there." "Ghost" previously launched the then-unsigned artist into regular rotation on Sirius XM Hits 1, vaulted her up the iTunes' alternative music chart, and led to multiple label offers including Astralwerks (who signed her one day after hearing the track).

Romance oozes through Room 93 both in aesthetics and in storytelling. The title references a fictional hotel room with the tracks exploring a loose narrative on the human intimacy of these temporary domiciles."It's a private world where you can really be yourself - or choose to be someone else, explains Halsey. "I've lived the past year in and out of hotels and have formed human relationships that have thrived and failed in the setting of those rooms. The setting of a hotel is forever permanent, and unchanging. The unsettling nature of this 'alternate universe' is what inspired the EP."

New EP tracks include "Is There Somewhere" , "Empty Gold", "Trouble (Stripped)", and "Hurricane" which premiered exclusively at Vogue.com

Set in Brooklyn, the somnambulant "Hurricane" is a spectral look back at a fling with a drugged-out lover floating away from her. "There's an odd bit of feminism in it," she notes."There's triumph in the lyric; 'I don't belong to no city. I don't belong to no man.'"

Conversely, the sparse "Trouble" explores a man "who finds sick, sadistic pleasure in making me feel bad."  "Empty Gold" explores that particular moment in a struggling relationship where you know you need to walk away to save yourself, but you're still hopeful and pleading to save it.
"It's like the end of an action movie when the hero finds vindication. It has this build up, you know? It feels climactic."

Though passions may run the gamut, there is a common thread that runs throughout her music: The protagonists never stick around to be victimized. The same can be said of the artist; Halsey strikes an uncanny balance of the sincere and subversive to powerful effect.

Room 93 Tracklist:
Is There Somewhere
Ghost
Hurricane

The Knife Release Remixes, Play Final Shows

RELEASE REMIXES OF “STAY OUT HERE” AND “READY TO LOSE”
In advance of their upcoming European tour, The Knife announce the release of remixes of “Stay Out Here” and “Ready to Lose” from their “Shaking the Habitual” album.  Click here to listen to and share the Kane Roth remix of “Stay Out Here.”

This is what the remixers have to say about the tracks:

Tama Sumo / Tarantism - “Ready to Lose”

“Instantly upon hearing this track, especially the lyrical content, we were really excited about remixing the track.  We are great admirers of The Knife as artists, we are also extremely impressed and fully support their political stance.  We fully support any endeavour that highlights the issues that threaten humanity.  There is simply no place for racism, homophobia/transphobia and sexism.

After listening many times to the lyrics, we had a brain wave and thought how brilliant it would be to have a female choir with women from different backgrounds singing those lyrics as the message was powerful and universal.  Needless to say, that idea was quickly left behind - financially and logistically it looked difficult.

Ari had been a friend all this time and so we had recently been so excited when we heard her stunning and powerful voice and we immediately thought to continue on this idea of taking these universal and important lyrics and getting her in the studio.  We were also fascinated by the fact that Karin and Ari come from completely different backgrounds and yet they share the message.  Ari came and laid down the vocals.  There was such a great energy amongst the three of us that before you knew it we were all working together towards the entire remix.”

Paula Temple - “Stay Out Here”

“I felt the message deeply strong in the lyrics, so the remix had to be extremely powerful, focusing around the lyrics ‘Lose A Wall, Love Me’ and pushing all the energy and intensity into this action.  I distorted the vocals and the percussion bursts to near disintegration like they are breaking down walls.

But when I finished the remix I couldn’t stop.  It is the way Shannon and Karin sing together in the song that I felt compelled to make another version.  So for the second remix I focused the intensity in a more fun way, imagining The Knife fans dancing like crazy at one of their concerts.  I had to feature Shannon’s magnificent voice as the launch to the craziness about to come and then I went wild with tons of percussion and elephant sounding synths to sound like a stampede.  After all, it takes a lot of energy to lose these walls we build.”

Kane Roth - “Stay Out Here”

“The first time I listened to the original track, my thought was, this is a truly amazing piece, the best remix I have ever had to do. I always find it very inspiring working with great sounds that are not mine. I've found this project quite challenging and exciting.  I was divided by a little fear and a powerful emotion, a little fear can lead you to do your best.

I did several versions but when the track sounded more dark and techno, I started to be satisfied with the remix.  My idea was to make the track accessible to DJs but at the same time to stay true to the song.  I wanted to combine their synth and the vocals with some percussions, a deep bass and a special groove that fits well with the synth.”

HERE'S WHAT PEOPLE ARE ALREADY SAYING ABOUT RE-LICKED

"An avalanche of raw riffs… and Williamson playing white-knuckled leads like he absolutely refuses to let the Stooges’ music go gentle into that good night." - PREMIER GUITAR

“Unsurprisingly brilliant.” - NME

"'I Gotta Right,' the second single from Re-Licked, is a manic, guitar-blazing rocker featuring belter Lisa Kekaula of The Bellrays." - USA TODAY

“James Williamson’s aggressive guitar style may be the most influential in punk.” - NPR’s WORLD CAFE

"… hard-charging, fast-paced punk" - EXCLAIM!

"... a karmic correction" - Author/journalist HARVEY KUBERNIK

“James Williamson is on a mission. Revitalized after a reunion with The Stooges and further stoked by interest in his career he has been working hard on keeping The Stooges beating heart alive. Iggy may be having a break from this thing called rock and roll but James is having none of it. The results... a new album of re-recorded songs from the catalogue of Iggy Pop and James Williamson. Songs that never made it into the studio, some known from live shows, some not.
Re-Licked is kicking itself out of the garage with an intent to seek and destroy all naysayers, and along for the ride are some very special guest stars.” – ARTROCKER

“... gruff and propulsive” - CONSEQUENCE OF SOUND

“Properly recorded and no longer mired in sub-bootleg mire, the songs do indeed shine through.” - BUCKETFULL OF BRAINS

“James Williamson closes the loop of The Stooges’ past legend in the  best possible way.” - ROCK ON MAGAZINE / SPAIN

“Thankfully, there isn't a single note on
Re-Licked that was phoned in. Every person involved in this momentous release clearly grasped the importance of the work being presented…. gearing up to be the Album of the Year.” - music critic JOEL GAUSTON

“…the ‘Great Lost Stooges’ album of 1974.” - OUT MAGAZINE

Re-Licked has enough energy, fine playing and (deep breath) convincing vocals to present as something unique in the canon of Stooge-inspired music. Get it.” - I-94 BAR

James Williamson (standing) and Iggy Pop (not standing) circa 1973, when the majority of the tracks for Re-Licked were originally penned by the two

On December 9th, Mute will release the physical CD & LP formats of Shaken-Up Versions, a mini album of classic Knife tracks reworked especially for the band’s recent North American leg of theirShaking The Habitual Tour. The Shaking The Habitual show was a rejuvenating experience for the mind and soul, inspiring TIME Magazine to demand it as “mandatory viewing for music fans.”  Reverb Magazine proclaimed, “A performance of this scale is rare. And, it wakes us to the fact that not only is art far from irrelevant, but in the form of The Knife, we can be reminded again of its force.” This force will end with these upcoming autumn live dates as The Knife have announced this is their last tour with theShaking the Habitual show. Here are their words on the subject.

“In the autumn we will round up the Shaking The Habitual Show Tour with a number of European dates. After the touring last year we reworked the show during the winter. The performers, previously known as dancers, learnt how to sing and play instruments, the stage got three levels, Shannon Funchess joined us and the show became more fun and shiny. We performed it in the US in the spring and now we would love you to join us in our dance for some last shaking moves.

A handfull elf pee
That’s my soul
Spray it allover
Fill the bowl
Legs astride
An axe to grind
Generous actions with the speed of light
Without you my life would be boring

See you on the dance floor…”

Olof and Karin, The Knife

Mark Lanegan Band release Phantom Radio today, U.S. tour begin

MARK LANEGAN BAND’S PHANTOM RADIO OUT TODAY
OCTOBER 21, 2014

U.S. TOUR BEGINS NEXT WEEK

(October 21, 2014) – Today the MARK LANEGAN BAND release Phantom Radio on Flooded Soil/Vagrant on in the U.S.  The album has received nearly unanimous praise from critics with four stars in MOJO who said, “A brave, inspired step into the unknown…a fresh new bite… the kind of electronic blues Depeche Mode were reaching for with Songs of Faith and Devotion.” The Independent gavePhantom Radio five stars and claimed, "Unlike most gothic pop, Lanegan’s art is not a matter of fashion or mascara: it’s a genuine cri du coeur, as rare and beautiful as anything in music." Q gave the disc four stars while The Guardian said, "...a career highlight... Torn Red Heart might be the most beautiful love song Lanegan has ever recorded.” Uncut stated, "Phantom Radio feels like a real upping of the game."

Phantom Radio, produced by Alain Johannes, is Lanegan’s ninth release under his own name, his 20th if you include his collaborations, and close to his 50th if you include his guest appearances.

Lanegan's chief compositional tool on Phantom Radio was his phone – specifically an app called Funk Box. “I didn’t bother to hook up my 909 and 808 this time,” he says, “because the app had ’em. I’d write drum parts with it then add music with the synthesizer or the guitar.” The album grew organically from these synthetic roots, taking in Mark’s ongoing love of Krautrock and also an ’80s new wave show on Sirius satellite radio, his favored aural companion as he drives around Los Angeles. “They have a few good shows but the ‘80s one in particular I like,” he says. “That’s the music that was happening when I started making music. And although the Trees drew on Nuggets psychedelia, 13th Floor Elevators and Love, we were actually listening to Echo And The Bunnymen, Rain Parade, the Gun Club. A lot of British post-punk. We loved that stuff. I just waited until I was in my late forties before I started ripping it off.”

Lanegan’s generous collaborative spirit sees him deliver an excellent co-write with British guitarist Duke Garwood, with whom he made last year’s dustbowl-desolate Black Pudding, and who now offers the music for “I Am The Wolf,” a Lanegan signature tune. Mark’s favorite song on the album, meanwhile, is “Torn Red Heart,” an intensely tender meditation for a broken heart that’s like The Velvet Underground’s “Pale Blue Eyes” orchestrated by Angelo Badalamenti. He also has a special mention for “Floor Of The Ocean,” which balances sheer catchiness with a deceptively bleak lyrical reflection on a life lived on the hard shoulder: “Clear eyes, can’t avoid the searchlight/Hope that they don’t find me/Find me where I’m lying.”
