"The American David Bowie"
"Hype Of The Year"
"The True Fairy Of Rock And Roll"

Jobriath A.D. on DVD with an LP of NEVER BEFORE RELEASED
music from Jobriath's lost musical, "Popstar"
coming April 21st via Factory 25

"Neither for the ears of the elderly nor for those with middle-aged perspectives, Jobriath voiced the excess destitution of New York's most tormentedly aware, whose lives were favoured by darkness. Cinematic themes of desperate dramas in paranoid shadows were presented as choppy and carnivalesque melodies...Neither America nor England was quite ready. "
Factory 25 announces the release of director Kieran Turner's music documentary Jobriath A.D.
about seventies glam rock musician Jobriath, also known as "The American Bowie," "The True Fairy of Rock & Roll," and "Hype of the Year." The film, on DVD, will be packaged with an LP of unreleased music from Jobriath's lost musical, "Popstar".

The first openly gay rock star, Jobriath's reign was brief, lasting less than two years and two albums. Done in by a over-hyped publicity machine, shunned by the gay community, and dismissed by critics as all flash and no substance, Jobriath was excommunicated from the music business. He retreated to the Chelsea Hotel where he died, forgotten, in 1983 at the age of 37, as one of the earliest casualties of AIDS.

In the years since his death, new generations of fans have discovered his music through acts as diverse as Morrissey, Def Leppard, The Pet Shop Boys, and Gary Numan, all of whom have cited Jobriath as an influence. Through interviews, archival material, and animation, audiences can experience the heartbreaking and unbelievable story of the one, the only, Jobriath.

The film features narrator Henry Rollins (Black Flag) and interviews with Jobriath influenced artists: Marc Almond, Joey Arias, Jayne County, Joe Elliott of Def Leppard, Stephin Merritt of Magnetic Fields, Jake Shears of Scissor Sisters, Will Sheff of Okkervil River, and Justin Tranter of Semi Precious Weapons.

Crate Digger: An Obsession With Punk Records by Bob Suren

Crate Digger: An Obsession With Punk Recordsby Bob Suren
Available on June 9th - Trade Paperback, 192 Pages - $14.95

An insider's account of the last 30 years of punk rock and vinyl records,
including new information on many punk luminaries.

Bob Suren spent more than 30 years immersed in punk rock. His obsession with punk music, culture, and especially record collecting began with a loaned mix tape in a small town in Florida when he was a teenager and slowly took over all aspects of his life.

He started a record label and distribution company, opened a record store, managed a thriving bootleg merchandise empire, published a magazine, promoted shows, and traveled the world with his own band. He mentored generations of younger punks and built a movement that put Florida on the map. He stayed a step ahead of all the ups and downs of the music industry, always pioneering.

Join Bob as he hangs out with punk luminaries like Jello Biafra, The Meatmen, Raw Power, Black Flag, The Dead Boys, Millions of Dead Cops, Rattus, and more. He relates his (mis)adventures breaking his curfew to see the Dead Boys' last show, almost getting arrested after seeing the Ramones, touring with his bands in Egypt, Ecuador, Brazil, and more.

As Jeff Nelson of Minor Threat said, "Really brings to life the early days of the American punk scene as it spread slowly across the country, through turntables, fanzines, and word of mouth. His vivid vinyl recollections illustrate how good record stores and adventurous college radio stations were so essential in bringing startling new music into the lives of many previously isolated kids. It follows the trajectory of a kid-turned-concert-promoter as his passion for music became all-consuming."

Then one day it all fell apart. He'd built up his life like a record collection, but it didn't satisfy him anymore. He sold everything, dropped out, moved far from home to start fresh... and wrote this book.

Crate Digger is written in short spurts tied to actual records. The result is real, heartfelt, and deeply informed by the music of the last thirty years. It's a basic piece of your punk history collection.

"Bob Suren delivers some great punk rawk history through anecdote and wit, intermingled with personal stories of love, loss, the characters that have come and gone and that elusive hunk of vinyl that's just around the next corner.... All spanning 30 years of Bob's life."
- Ami Lawless, Voetsek

"A passionate and cautionary tale of the ecstasy and dark side of a serious vinyl addiction in the golden age of preinternet wax hoarding . A must read for anyone who collects anything!"
- Tesco Vee, the Meatmen.

"More than just your typical "record guide," Crate Digger allows us to accompany Bob on his passionate 30+ year punk rock journey. The anecdotal approach reminds us that, for the passionate music fan, there's a personal connection to a particular record that often conjures up various memories, both good and bad."
- Al Quint, Suburban Voice magazine and Sonic Overload Radio.

Partisan Records is excited to announce that The Pixies have chosen John Grant as their direct support for a spring US tour in continued support of 2013's Pale Green Ghosts.  Kicking off in New Orleans on May 5th, the tour will route through the Southeast and East Coast, culminating with two New York City shows (The Beacon Theater on May 27th and the historic Kings Theatre in Brooklyn on May 28th).  Additionally, Grant will play Shaky Knees Festival in Atlanta, and is currently working on his third album due out later this year.  The full list of tour dates is below.

In late 2014, Grant performed much of his celebrated catalog with the 60-piece BBC Philharmonic Orchestra, with arrangements by his long-time collaborator Fiona Brice.  So good was the performance, and also in response to public demand, Grant's UK label, Bella Union, released a live recording of the show late last year.  This follows Grant's 2014 nomination for a BRIT Award in the Best International Male Solo Artist category, where he went up against Drake, Bruno Mars, and Justin Timberlake.

2014 also found Grant collaborating with many widely acclaimed artists:  He was asked by Elton John to re-recorded "Sweet Painted Lady," which was included on the 40th anniversary reissue of Goodbye Yellow Brick Road that came out in March.  Not only did he help translate Asgeir's debut album, In the Silence, into English, but his vocals can also be heard on the recent Hercules And Love Affair album, The Feast of The Broken Heart, on tracks " I Try To Talk To You" and "Liberty."

“The best record Tennis has done so far.” NPR “All Things Considered”

“The LP blends catchy classic rock riffs with an indie pop sensibility and a dreamy lo-fi disco sound.”— TIME

“Their new record, Ritual in Repeat, finds Tennis continuing to mature and highlight their strengths
—Moore’s growing voice, an ear for melody.”—Pitchfork
“…a fantastic listen, with song after song jam-packed full of catchy hooks.” Paste
“Haim fans, take note: Alaina Moore’s delicate voice drives buoyant guitar pop on this release.” New York Magazine

“The new disc is as summery as ever, but there’s a sultrier kick, a hot-blooded sway in songs like ‘I’m Callin’.”
The Boston Globe

“…artful, breezy, R&B influenced pop.”— KCRW
“…a refreshing sense of comfort and warmth.”— Glamour

Tennis is heading out on a North American spring tour in support of their critically-acclaimed album Ritual in Repeat, out now on Communion Records. In conjunction with the new dates, The Fader exclusively premieres Tennis’ new video for “ Needle and a Knife.” Watch the video HERE. “The idea for this live video developed out of my obsession with Petra Collins’ photography,” vocalist Alaina Moore told The Fader. “Her work is impertinent, forceful and above all feminine. Forty bucks and several trips to Party City was all I needed to turn my living room into a pink hell which doubled as the perfect setting for a live performance of ‘Needle And A Knife.’” The band begins their headlining tour in their hometown of Denver, CO on April 25. Please see full dates below.
Tennis worked in three seperate cities with three well-known producers on the new album. They returned to Nashville to work with Pat Carney ( The Black Keys) on five of the album’s tracks including “Never Work For Free.”  They also worked with Jim Eno ( Spoon) in his Austin Studio on “Bad Girls”and lastly Richard Swift ( The Shins) in Portland, who collaborated with the band on four songs including “Timothy.”
Tennis is Denver couple Alaina Moore and Patrick Riley. The duo began writing music together as a way to document the history of their time living aboard a sailboat. The result was their first release, Cape Dory. Moore and Riley followed Cape Dory with Young and Old, which The New Yorker described as “winsome as it is ebullient,” and debuted #1 on Billboard’s Heatseeker Chart and #1 on CMJ Top 200, where it remained for three straight weeks. The album also debuted on Soundscan’s “New Artist Chart” at #1 remaining there for nine consecutive weeks. The band performed on “The Late Show with David Letterman,” “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Conan” and “Last Call with Carson Daly.” Twenty thirteen brought Small Sound EP and the band’s Spring tour with Haim.
